You may remember a few years ago when GDI Insurance became involved trying to help get a homeless shelter here in Turlock.  We have focused our support of the

Turlock Gospel Mission

Turlock Gospel Mission (TGM) which is now preparing to grow with new plans to expand their facilities in an effort to create an even safer environment for those less fortunate. It is the mission of the TGM to provide food, shelter, and compassion, as well as educational, residential and employment services. TGM intends to provide Turlock’s poor and homeless with a full time shelter that offers opportunities that combine spiritual, personal, and community resources enabling them to become more productive members of society.

Since 2008 TGM has been serving nightly meals, 365 days a year with help from 26 partners and associated churches in the Turlock area.  From November to April, the coldest days of the year, TGM has also provided 4,876 nights of shelter to over 303 different women and children. Word has gotten out in the community about the TGM’s commitment to service, with the facility garnering over 18,587 visits this year alone. With the need being so great, TGM has outgrown their current location and is looking to pursue offering long-term services to Turlock’s needy.

In January 2012 TGM purchased two adjoining lots on 437 South Broadway. In their current state, the lots are in no condition to support the needs of TGM. A three phase development plan for the properties however has been created:

1)     Cleanup and renovation of the existing warehouse to provide shelter, meals and healthcare basics

2)     Additional housing and meeting space, as well as the development of property to consolidate the two lots

3)     Expansion into adjacent lot – additional shelter, meeting space, transitional housing, and offices
